Our feet are home to many important acupressure points, energetic pathways, fascial tissues, bones, joints and tens of thousands of nerve endings. Using skilled touch, both light and deep finger pressure, gentle traction and other techniques to open and activate these significant areas, foot reflexology treatments encourage our entire body/energy system to unwind, relax, and rest within its natural state of balance.
Foot reflexology treatments help us to let go of accumulated physical, emotional, and mental tension and activate our parasympathetic nervous system, which encourages restoration and detoxification throughout our entire body. This ability of foot reflexology to help us relax deeply has been proven beneficial for almost any recovery process and can aid in the relief of many issues.
The feet can also be seen as the foundation of our entire body. Modern day physics tells us that tension throughout any structure is sent to its foundation to be absorbed, dissipated and released into the earth; keeping our feet relaxed, energized, flexible and well-connected to the earth can play a major role in our ability to release the physical, emotional, and mental tension we encounter throughout our lives.
Seeing the feet as our foundation also helps us understand how our feet keep us grounded and present in our lives. Our response to trauma, shock, fear or an accumulation of stress is often one of going ‘out of body’ and disconnecting from the world around us. The energy flow to our lower body, legs and feet may become weak and dull, giving rise to physical ailments, misalignment, low energy, an unfocused mind, callousness and other issues. Giving care and attention to the feet is a nurturing, safe and non-invasive way of inviting us back into the body and restoring a healthy flow of energy through our entire body/energy system.
Over the years, my foot reflexology technique has expanded to include skills and principles from other bodywork modalities, most notably Zero Balancing®. In ZB, the feet, and especially the bones and joints of the feet, are held in high regard as they carry ‘the ways in which we’ve learned to walk in the world’; working to release stress, restriction and trauma from the bones and joints of the feet often feels as if we are addressing our health and well-being on a foundational level.
Today, the foot reflexology I offer is a truly unique and thorough treatment, addressing you and your body/energy system on several different levels. And, of course, foot reflexology treatments simply feel good, and are an excellent way to treat yourself or a loved one to something special.
